We're proud to announce that we've teamed up with Makers Challenge Central for Season 15 of The Builders Challenge!
Save those wood scraps because by registering for season 15 of The Builders Challenge starts off July 15th, to kick off their first ever “Offcut” themed challenge with one lucky prize winner taking home a ONEFINITY CNC X-50 Woodworker! *must be a resident of North America to be eligible to win this prize. While international participation is allowed, we cannot guarantee prize packs outside of these regions.
How long does the challenge last? You’ll have 3ish weeks to complete your build from July 15th until 11:59pm on August 6th.
What are the parameters? You’ll get a detailed email on July 15th or check back here below after the challenge goes live (or maybe a sneak peek early).
How do you get the most out of this challenge? Participate and interact with the community! Whether this is your first challenge or your 40th, follow the hashtag #tbc15progress and then make sure you use that tag when posting your progress of your project! This competition is about community (and cool prizes) so the more you all interact with each other the more fun this is for everyone. Make sure you’re tagging @makerschallengecentral (and even sending a collaboration request) so we can share your work!
How do you submit your project? First, post your final project (it can be a picture, video or reel) to your Instagram feed tagging @makerschallengecentral and using the hashtag #tbc15final no later than 11:59pm PST on August 6th, 2023. Final submissions using Instagram Stories will not be counted in judging. Then fill out this SUBMISSION FORM (will go live at launch) to complete the process. No submission form, no entry.
Season 15 Theme & Details
Challenge Timeframe: Officially kicks off 12:01am July 15th and final submissions are due by 11:59pm PST on August 6th!
Challenge Categories: This is an “Offcut” challenge which means you HAVE TO pick at least one piece of scrap wood to highlight and implement into your build.
Participants can choose from one of two categories to enter (you can submit more than one project): 1. TBC15 GOES BIG: Projects must be larger than a 24”x24”x24” cube and utilize the offcut piece of wood. This is a perfect category for furniture makers or people who want that grande life! 2. TBC15 CLASSIC: Projects must be small enough to fit into a 24”x24”x24” box and utilize the offcut piece of wood. This is a perfect category for craft or décor projects.
Challenge Requirements:
Participants must use their offcut in an identifiable manner in their project. You can cut it down into inlays, cast it in epoxy, turn it into door knobs, etc. but we want to be able to pick it out when judging.
Projects can be made out of any materials from epoxy to metal to concrete and more, but at least 25% of your project needs to contain a wood element.
Participants are required to make one Instagram feed post (video, photo or reel) tagging @makerschallengecentral during the challenge showing their cutoff/scrap piece of wood and give a brief explanation of why they chose it for the challenge. You can tell the species of wood, what project it previously came from or how it’s inspiring you for this build. Just give us backstory!
All projects must be submitted by 11:59pm PST on August 6th by posting a final reveal (photo, video, reel) of their project tagging @makerschallengecentral and using the hashtag #TBC15FINAL in the post.
All final projects will also require you to complete a “SUBMSSION FORM” that will be posted on the Makers Challenge Central Website (https://makerschallengecentral.com/tbc/) after the first week of the challenge. This helps us pull submissions for the judges.
While we want to see tons of progress and updates in your Instagram stories, final submissions posted to Stories do not count as they disappear in 24 hours, but please tag us in any progress content and use hashtag #TBC15 so others can follow along!
Prizes & Participation:
We pride ourselves in our amazing prize packs our partners provide for each challenge, however, due to inventory limitations and shipping constraints, not all prizes are guaranteed but we’ll do our best to supplement alternatives. International participation is absolutely encouraged, but prizes are not guaranteed to a winner outside the continental US or in some cases Canada.
Submissions ONLY in the “TBC15 GOES BIG” category qualify for the Grand Prize of a ONEFINITY X-50 Woodworker CNC. Delivery is only guaranteed to residents of US and Canada. Prize must be claimed within 60 days of winning.
Winners from both categories will be eligible for prize packs collected from our Season 15 partners Kreg Tool, Wagner, Calavera Tool Works, Walrus Oil, Truewerk, DAP Products, Surf Prep Sanding, Bessey Tools, Simpson Strong-Tie Triton Tools and our friends from Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts and Fox Chapel Publishing.
